like sirens and moles
with distinct body regions
capped with packets of sperm
displayed in a wide range
of jellylike eggs
lost during transformation
yelling when captured
and squirming vigorously
when handled
Nestling in winter
waiting for spring
in sheltered cavities
emitting clicks
after wrestling
un opportunistic litter
becoming threatened
by a red underbelly
and swelling vents
In defense December
through May cave dwelling
lined with fleshy projections
on stream beds of detritus
poorly known as predacious
to incubating eggs
tipped with black horny layers
Swept into the water by heavy rains
bypassing the tadpole stage
of yellowish flecks
over a clear head and neck
along with a conspicuous
tympanum of warm, moist skin
hatching directly into tail-wagging
species in swiftly flowing streams
Erupting like bubbles in tar pits
of hardship with foul-mouthed grit
given heady physicality
while dilating the entire length...
