The ground is gilded
according to tradition
being equally belied
by implied outlines
as the space behind
deep shadows
out of stormy clouds
brilliant rose gowns
carved in stone panels
haloes all aglow
draped in full-length
green brocade
yet standing naked
at the base
of a surprising apex
forms portrayed
from far away
caught up by paint
applied in rays
and enabling glazes
as studies of nature...
